Why We Started Hover
Come build with us
Hover started a few days after my birthday in 2023, around that same time, I got laid off from my job. It was one of those moments where everything feels uncertain, i was trying to figure things out, my career, my identity, what came next.
And I knew I wasn’t the only one, so we started Hover.
We wanted to create a space for teenagers and young adults like us, people trying to figure life out in real time.
People asking questions like:
What if things don’t work out?
Why do I struggle with self-esteem?
That’s where our slogan came from:
“Hovering around till we find a safe spot to land.”
Because that’s exactly what it felt like.
Still in the air.
Still figuring things out.
For me, it was deeper than that.
I wanted to share my struggles, my experiences with mental health, self-doubt, and growing up.
But I didn’t know how to start.
My co-founder also wanted to build a space where people could learn, share, and grow together.
We’re not fully there yet.
But I believe we’re getting closer.
Menstruation has been one of the biggest triggers for my mental health.
I don’t usually have cramps, but my mood swings can be intense.
There were times I felt like I was losing my memory.
Like I couldn’t recognize who I was anymore.
It felt like a dark cloud was constantly hovering over me.
I was dizzy, low, angry and deeply sad.
The first time it happened, I didn’t understand what was going on.
I had just started a new job.
I remember being at work, on my period, and suddenly I started crying.
People kept asking what was wrong, i could not reply because i didn’t know why i was crying, I just knew I felt sad.
In 2024, i went to see a doctor and i was diagnosed with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder.(PMDD)
Everything started to make sense.
I had 2 therapy section, and I began to understand my body, my emotions, and my patterns better.
It still gets intense sometimes.
But now I know what it is.
And that awareness has helped me manage it better.
This is why I started Flow with Hover.
To create awareness.
To share real experiences.
To support young girls who might be going through the same thing without understanding it.
We are dedicating May to create awareness for Menstrual Health
Because no one should feel alone in something like this.
We’re hosting our pad drive on May 22nd, and our goal is to reach 500 girls.
₦1,000 can provide menstrual care for one girl.
